Ancient China Art

{Jess}  Chinese beliefs relate to their art because they use art(as well as writing) to express to different civilizations  and future dynasties what life was like and what was important to them. Also, they created art that would  be appealing to the people; therefore they created art that had something to do with what the people were interested or believed in.

{Taylor} I think that the Chinese art reflects a lot about the Chinese. Most of their work was made to last a long time, which to me seems like that show that they wanted their dynasty to last just as long. The bronze and pottery work show how strong they were. You can tell because the bronze is a strong material and the figures that they made were fierce and scary creatures. The clay army that Shi Huangdi built also shows how strong and fierce they were. The paintings show a softer side to china it shows more of the thoughtful things that they believed in. I think that China expressed how strong, and yet caring they were though their art.

When someone creates something, it is created through themselves, their being. A persons being reflects their beliefs, thoughts and their lifestyle. So basically, when you make a piece of art, or writing or anything, it is, in essence, a part of you. The chinese artists created their art just by what they wanted to make, probally without even knowing thier art reflected their beliefs. when we look at the art now, we are able to see their beliefs because it is reflected in the tone, or shape, or whatever the artist decided to put in.   -april

{ Allyson} Day to day life in ancient China was rich in tradition with stong beliefs and values. Nature was respected and in balance with these traditions, beliefs, and values. Yin and Yang, and the veneration of ancestors are Chinese beliefs that were strong in ancient Chinese culture. Confucius, Daoism, Legalism, and Buddhism, have all had an impact on ancient Chinese life.
The art of the ancient Chinese is a balance of its culture and nature. Chinese calligraphy looks so simple but it is so complex just like Chinese culture. The paintings have an exact detail to nature ans a feeling of peace and tranquility. The Bronze work was symbolic and used to prey to the gods and the nature spirits. Clay work was used for just about everything. Artists were taught generation by generation and the craft was a family tradition. Ancient Chinese artists were always looking for ways to improve their craft and their best was always represented in their art. The Dynasties supported the arts and it was a reflection of their wealth and power. Chinese art reflects the values and beliefs of the ancient Chinese with the harmony of nature and their simple but complex outlook on life.
